In New Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has implemented strict measures targeting industries in "non-conforming areas." During a recent operation, MCD sealed 84 complexes, and disconnected electricity and water supply at seven locations. Non-conforming or non-planned industrial areas are places where industries operate without proper authorization. There are 26 such areas, with approximately 70% of the space being used for industrial activities. Some examples of non-conforming areas are Khyala, Peeragarhi, Mundka, Hastsal, and Anand Parbat. The Delhi government is revitalizing some of these areas to improve the city's economy, increase job opportunities, and support industrial establishments. In August and September, MCD teams inspected 520 units in non-conforming areas to ensure they adhere to regulations. Licensing officers also conducted checks on 215 factories in conforming zones. During the inspections, it was found that 43 factories were operating without the necessary permits. After receiving notices, 31 factories applied for licenses, while MCD pursued actions against the others by disconnecting power and water supply. Those businesses were given three days to respond or seek licenses. In the absence of a reply, MCD took further action. Additionally, a campaign is underway to verify the compliance of units that were relocated from residential to industrial areas as part of the MC Mehta vs Union of India case.
